SPECIAL PROJECTS:
Dear Briarwood Neighbors:
I ask for your help in making Briarwood a safer and more attractive neighborhood for all of us who live here.  Each of us must start taking a more active role in shaping the future of our community.  I am seriously concerned that if we do not continue making process in the areas of crime reduction and code compliance, we will continue to attract those individuals who contribute nothing to our neighborhood and are only here to bring down the overall environment.
As you can tell, many homes in the area exhibit signs of graffiti and other examples of willful neglect (e.g.; litter, high weeds, outside storage).  One way the BNA is trying to combat this problem is by working closely with Dallas Code Compliance to clean up some of the neglected homes and properties within our boundaries.  Our new code compliance inspector has already begun inventorying the issues and will begin issuing citations shortly.
The BNA also continues to work closely with the Dallas Police on several enforcement initiatives designed to increase police visibility and reduce crime.  One method used is to deploy marked DPD cruisers in Briarwood to take action on violators who they observe.  In the short time this has been in operation, it has yielded some positive results. Therefore, I would be sure to watch my speed, stop at all traffic signs, and take care of any outstanding warrants.  DPD has already issued citations to some for those previous offenses.
Although these two initiatives are helping us turn around our community, the BNA still needs your support and participation.  You can help the BNA and yourself by:
1) Joining the BNA, it's only $10 a year. If you don't show your support to non-residents, why should they help us when we live here?
2) Report all suspicious activity to Dallas Police by dialing 911. You can remain anonymous and you are helping us all deter crime.
3) Report all potholes, litter, bulk trash, and other city services to the City by dialing 311.  Please don't expect others to do this. This shows the City that we care about our area and want to maintain it!!!
4) Be good neighbors to each other. Remember that others live next door to you. No one wants to live next door to litter, loud music, barking dogs, or other nuisances.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the next BNA meeting. Come show your pride in your neighborhood and yourself.

Regards,
Marc P. Valerin

Please call your block captain or send us an e-mail at info@briarwoodna.com to participate in any of these initiatives.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Community Meeting Announcement
RESIDENTS INVITED TO PROVIDE INPUT
IN SELECTION OF NEW POLICE CHIEF

The City of Dallas will be holding three community meetings to gather input from residents and business owners for the process of selecting a new police chief.
The next Police Chief will serve all of the diverse communities of Dallas, and it is extremely important that the City hears from those communities and knows what is important to them.

Maybe you want a Police Chief that:
• Has a strong commitment to innovative crime reduction strategies
• Will take community policing to new levels
• Will focus more on foot patrols
• Will get the department to communicate with the public in real-time via Twitter

Public input is critical in this process.
YOUR opinion can make a difference in who the City hires as the new Police Chief.
